Step-by-step: Crotat Beading

You might remember Helen Free as the designer of the fantastic crotat coasters from issue 19 or the fabulous Crotat Jewels in issue 22 (both pictured below). Well, she’s put together this fantastic guide to Crotat Beading to help you with the pattern – we hope you enjoy it!

Crotat Beading

Beaded Picot – bp

The beads are threaded on to the yarn or thread before starting.

Work the required number of ds as in the pattern.

Slide the bead up to the hook.

Complete the ring as in the pattern.

Beaded Joining Picot – bjp

The beads are added to the picots as you work.

Work the required number of ds as in the pattern.

With a hook small enough to go through the bead, slide the bead on to the hook then insert the hook through the picot you are joining to.

Pull the picot through the bead.

Yoh and pull the loop through the picot.

Place the loop over the crotat hook and tighten to the right size.

Continue with the ring as in the pattern.
